The Stuttgart Museum of Art was created in the former road system at the Kleiner Schlossplatz (Small Palace Square). Although key parts of the exhibition are located under the Square, traffic flow on the main road running under the building was maintained.

The associated partner Drees & Sommer implemented the complex main part of the building in an existing structure within the agreed schedule and budget. Even the change of the gallery directory during construction – and the resulting change to the exhibition concept – did not impact completion dates
