Wirtschaft 4.0 in der Baubranche: Dank BIM (Building Information Modeling) werden durch den Einsatz von Software die Planung, Ausführung und Bewirtschaftung von Gebäuden für alle Beteiligte optimiert.
Um kleine und mittlere Unternehmen bei den Herausforderungen der Digitalisierung der Wirtschaft zu unterstützen und ihre Wettbewerbsfähigkeit zu erhalten, haben wir mit unserem Projekt „BIM Open Source“ ein Tool ins Leben gerufen, das auf der Basis neuester Normen die Implementierung einer gemeinsamen Datenumgebung bietet (Common Data Environment CDE nach EN ISO 19650), und somit die Grundlage zur effektiven Zusammenarbeit des gesamten Planerverbundes darstellt.
Das Projekt, das vom baden-württembergischen Wirtschaftsministerium gefördert wird, umfasst ein im offenen Web verfügbares Komplettpaket BIM/CDE Open Source incl. Benutzeroberfläche, sämtlicher Werkzeuge, Dokumentation und Schulungspaket.
Am 30.04.2019 konnte der erste Schulungstag, ein kostenloses Pilot Training für Mitglieder und Netzwerkpartner der bw-engineers GmbH, stattfinden. Die 20 Teilnehmer, darunter Architekten, Tragwerksplaner und Ingenieure, wurden von den Referenten Dr. Volker Krieger und Arnim Spengler an die neue Normung herangeführt und konnten im weiteren Verlauf des Tages durch Interaktion und Test des Systems milliways.online ihre Anforderungen, Bedürfnisse und Wünsche direkt mit den Entwicklern besprechen. Der Paradigmenwechsel in der Baubranche hin zu effizienteren Prozessen durch Informations-Management wird in der Zukunft neue Funktionen, Aufgaben und Berufsbilder hervorbringen. Planen, Bauen und Betreiben als geschlossener Prozesskreislauf ist als Gesamtaufgabe zu sehen, bei der milliways.online ein wertvolles Mittel für alle beteiligten Fachleute sein kann. Auf die unterschiedlichen Vorkenntnisse und Erfahrungen der Teilnehmer mit BIM konnte durch den Mix an Wissensvermittlung und direktem Austausch, von Vortrag und praktischer Anwendung, sehr individuell eingegangen werden, so dass die Veranstaltung ein voller Erfolg war.
Weitere Schulungstermine, diesmal auch für externe Interessenten wie zum Beispiel ArchitektInnen, TragwerksingenieurInnen und KollegInnen aus anderen Planungsdisziplinen, sind in Vorbereitung und werden in Kürze veröffentlicht.

Planern, Ausführenden und auch Bauherren wird damit erstmals eine gemeinfreie Version einer sonst oft mit schwierigen Lizenzgebühren belasteten Cloud-Plattform geboten. Darüber hinaus ist das Komplettsystem als “Home”-Cloud konzipiert. Der Anwender hat die Möglichkeit, alles auf eigenen Servern zu betreiben und damit die volle Kontrolle über seine Daten zu erlangen und zu behalten. Durch Einsatz von modernen Technologien wie dem Security Enhanced Linux entspricht das System neuesten Sicherheitsansprüchen (s.a. DSGVO).
Die Neuentwicklung (und auch das Vorgängersystem milliways 1.0) stehen als Beta-Version 19.01 unter der URL milliways.online in einer offenen Testumgebung bereit. Das Pilottraining soll dem Entwicklerteam auch zur Erfahrungssammlung zukünftiger Praxisanforderungen dienen.

With the latest presentation of bw-engineers capabilities, its strength in providing world class expertise for review, quality management and training has been emphasized.
This includes a brief of our “Water Quality Management Experts” network. It is a network of top senior experts in all water quality related fields, providing specific advice

• in all kinds of dispute resolution as arbitration and adjudication as well as
• offering a wide range of teaching and training opportunities.

The business trip started with a meeting with about 100 top level representatives from the construction sector, related associations and politics including the Egyptian minister of Public Business Sector Hisham Tawfik and the German ambassador Julius Georg Luy. The delegation discussed with Tawfik in which sectors the collaboration with bw-engineers members and other companies from Baden-Württemberg could be initiated.
The main priorities for the delegation were two congresses (“The Art of Civil Engineering Baden-Württemberg”) held in Cairo and Alexandria. Besides et environment and technology, FACT GmbH and AEP Architects from bw-engineers, there were also Handwerk International Baden-Württemberg, VISIOVERDIS and the Hammer Stahl-Manufaktur introducing themselves to a high-ranking Egyptian audience from the construction sector and public authorities.
Another key aspect of the journey was the signing of a resolution between the president of the Egyptian Syndicate of Engineers (ESE) Hany Dahy, the founder of the German University of Cairo (GUC) Prof. Ashraf Mansour and INGBW-CEO Daniel Sander to intensify their cooperation and to pave the way for business activities for our engineers in Egypt.
At the site visit to the future Capital of Egypt New Cairo Capital City the spokesman of the administration Khaled Soliman explained to the delegation, that by the end of the first phase of construction in 2020, the administration will move into its new domicile. About six million people are supposed to live in the new city. Ahmed Abdien the managing director of NCC said that he hopes that Germany will continue to support them for the new capital as much as they already do. Therefore intensified cooperations with German engineering consultants are highly welcome.
A delegation of engineers and architects from Germany will be travelling to Egypt between 30th September and 4th October 2018.
Several members of bw-engineers will be joining the delegation. It is going to be a great opportunity to get acquainted with the Egyptian market, to promote German engineering competences and to meet potential clients or business partners.
A conference entitled “The Art of Civil Engineering and Architecture – Made in Baden-Wuerttemberg” will be organized both in Cairo and Alexandria to discuss future opportunities and ways of collaboration with partners in Egypt.
Daniel Sander, CEO of the Baden-Wuerttemberg Chamber of Engineers, will be heading the German delegation with its representatives and senior officials from about 10 companies from the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg.
On the agenda are a visit to the New Cairo Capital City project and a visit to the German University Cairo as well as meetings with potential business partners, local representatives and decision makers.
In the “Arab-German Yearbook 2018” Ghorfa has published bw-engineers recent health centers project with the Ministry of Health in Saudi Arabia.

The EU co-chaired the International Conference for Reconstruction of Iraq which was held in Kuwait on 12 -14 February 2018 and which Dr. Khaled Emam, Managing Director of bw engineers Emirates, attended.
The conference was the first of its kind and aimed to achieve security and stability in Iraq through a developmental start in the reconstruction of Iraq and the achievement of the effective participation of the international community in all its sectors.
The purpose of this conference was to mobilize renewed international support for Iraq’s reconstruction and development plans and to enhance collaboration between bilateral donors, multi-lateral development institutions and private sector investors as part of this process.
Germany’s development minister Gerd Müller (CSU) promised a prospective sum of 350 Million Euro to support the reconstruction.
bw engineers representative Dr. Khaled Emam made use of this exceptional event to explore opportunities for the future engagement of the bw-e cluster. This includes program and project related activities, responsible public bodies as well as contacts to local consultants as potential cooperation partners.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Housing Baden-Wuerttemberg has granted a total sum of 4 million Euro from the funds “Strategy of Digitalization” (digital@bw) to support medium-sized businesses in their efforts towards digitalization.
The funding for the ambitious programme of bw engineers is a result of an ideas competition initiated by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Housing. It was set up to develop and to experiment with innovative event formats for the transfer of technology and knowledge and to show how new ambits and business areas can be opened up. An internet-based approach for this transfer as well as innovative methods of linking research facilities and business companies was asked for. Out of 55 projects that have been sketched by research- and transfer-institutions, industrial regulatory bodies, educational institutions, cluster-initiatives and regional networks from Baden-Wuerttemberg, 15 projects have been nominated to submit their funding application.

As an issue of the cross clustering activities of bw-engineers this seminar was held on 19 September 2017 in the premises of the Ministry of Economic Affairs. bw-engineers took part at the 10th Saudi Travel & Tourism Investment Market (STTIM) conference in Riyadh. bw-engineers was invited to present its “health park” concept for opportunities in health tourism (picture): a unique destination concept combines preventive healthcare, rehabilitation, medical and diet consultation, hotel and fitness amenities. An agreement for economic and site appraisal is currently carried out with a local partner.
BW-Engineers hosted its BIM Open House 2016 in Riyadh with selected industry and embassy representatives. Managing Director Dr. Thomas Ertel was present at the 19th Arab-German Business Forum from 25th to 27th May in Berlin. More than 600 leading experts and decision makers from business, politics and science attended the high-ranking conference that presents the essential networking platform to create new and enhance existing business relationships. Current and perspective cooperation in fields of e.g. Infrastructure Megaprojects between the Arab world and Germany that traditionally share close business ties was addressed. Accordingly, Dr. Thomas Ertel held a lecture about recent experiences in facility management and design of infrastructure projects in Saudi Arabia.
This year, Germany joins the Saudi Arabian National Festival for Heritage and Culture “Janadriyah” as the guest of honor. Close links have been established between companies like bw-engineers from the Southwest of Germany and partners from Saudi Arabia. Based on this close relationship, the state of Baden-Württemberg took the opportunity to participate as a partner for the German pavilion at the Janadriyah festival 2016, providing the platform to key companies from Southwest Germany.
According to the motto “innovation as tradition”, Baden-Württemberg features small-and medium-sized trading, industrial and craft enterprises as well as engineering service providers to present projects and solutions that will foster the continuous development of the Kingdom. bw-engineers as one of the leading consultant engineers from Germany active in the Kingdom are part of this Baden-Württemberg presentation.

The Ministry of Finance and Economy promotes the cluster project “Meta-Cluster Engineering“ of the cluster initiative bw-engineers from Stuttgart. For the three-year project about 190.000 Euro are provided by the European Fund for Regional Development (EFRE).
When handing out the grant agreement on 23 September 2015 in Stuttgart the Secretary of State Peter Hofelich stressed the importance of viable cluster and innovation platforms (CLIP). The bw-engineers consortium provides engineering services with interfaces to environmental technology, resource efficiency and lightweight construction. As a key innovation driver the cluster initiative is entitled for project funding within the Operational Programme “Innovation and Energy Transition”.
The Meta-Cluster initiative from bw-engineers is supposed to gradually pave the way for medium-sized engineering firms in Baden-Württemberg into the Arab market. Especially the Gulf States are an attractive future market for the SMEs in Baden-Württemberg. Thereby, the Meta-Cluster project allows them not only to extend their activity abroad, but, at the same time, to intensify their regional ties with partner firms on the national level.
As part of the support programme a joint contact point in Riyadh for the engineers from bw-engineers and bw-construction will be established. Combining engineering design with handcraft and construction services is supposed to extend the service spectrum of both cluster initiatives. It is now the task of the cluster management to coordinate the cooperation with the general aim to so strengthen the excellent reputation and image of Baden-Württemberg on the international scale. A further priority is given to the implementation of innovative BIM-concepts (Building Information Modelling).
bw-engineers submitted the concept design for a Forensic Center prototype to its client Ministry of Health. Combining forensic autopsy, clinics, laboratories, conferencing and administration in one building, the 14.000m² large center becomes a showcase project in the Middle East.
bw-engineers had the honor to host a delegation of five managers of its Saudi Arabian client Ministry of Health. With view to strengthen ongoing and future cooperation, medical manufacturers and reference projects were visited across Germany (picture: Ellwangen Clinic).
bw-engineers was invited by the Saudi Umra Society to hold a lecture on “Healing Environments in Childrens Care” at the 3rd Saudi Forum for Planning and Design of Hospitals. The lecture was held by Mr. Marc Eggert.
The Ministry of Health appointed bw-engineers to design prototype Forensic Centers. With the medico-legal death investigation system in the KSA being unique in the world, bw-engineers will design a show case holistic forensic center for the Middle East.
At a reception in the German Embassy in Riyadh in early December bw -engineers CEO Dr. Thomas Ertel and Engineer Mohammed Al Guwaihes signed their joint venture agreement in the presence of Baden-Württemberg Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs Nils Schmid and the Saudi Economic and Planning Minister Muhammad al – Jasser. Thus bw -engineers is permanently present in Saudi Arabia.
For several years engineers from Baden-Württemberg have been active in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. As an initiative of the Chamber of Engineers and the Ministry of Economy Baden- Württemberg , the consortium “bw – engineers GmbH ” was founded in 2008. Bw -engineers bundles planning offices of different sizes and technical disciplines to act jointly under this brand in foreign markets. The network with over 800 planners and engineers operates in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with a big success: bw- engineers GmbH together with their Saudi partner , Mohammed Al Guwaihes are establishing an engineering company in Saudi Arabia, the “bw -engineers Arabia” . Engineer Mohammed Al Guwaihes spent over 30 years as an engineer and head of department in the Ministry of Water and the Ministry of Health and he was a member of the Shura Council for 12 years. Since 4 years he has been running his own engineering consultancy focused in project management and construction. He is also a board member of the Saudi Council of Engineers.

Haller, Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs of Baden Württemberg Nils Schmid and representatives of the two Chambers of Engineers .
At this reception also the Baden-Württemberg Chamber of Engineers and their Saudi Arabian equivalent, the Saudi Council of Engineers concluded a partnership agreement. Engineers from Baden -Württemberg engineers can now start working in Saudi Arabia without any time consuming procedures for approval.
Minister Nils Schmid, who politically supported the establishment of the agreements on its trip to Middle East, said: “These activities of the Baden-Württemberg Chamber of Engineers are remarkable. This agreement is a tremendous success for engineers from the Southwest of Germany . “
The friendly bilateral relations between Germany and Saudi Arabia facilitate the increasing engagement of bw-engineers in the Kingdom. Saudi Arabia is the largest economy in the Arab region and the world’s largest oil producer. A current development plan of the Saudi government provides substantial investments of about 385 billion USD in construction and infrastructure, health, transportation, education and energy. Bw-engineers will participate in the implementation of these infrastructural investments.
The 16th GEF was organized at Jeddah, KSA, by Saudi Council of Engineers, to discuss the issue of the hour “The Environment in GCC Region”, which aims at:
Exchange of experiences and expertise.
Understanding the knowledge transfer and its means of activation.
Development and updating to address the future challenges.
More than 600 representatives participated in the conference and the accompanying exhibition. bwe participated at the exhibition and presented its activities to the engineering community of the Gulf States.
In its fourth year of engagement in Saudi-Arabia, bw-engineers with its 23 partners will nearly reach an annual turnover of about 2.000.000 €. Dr. Thomas Ertel, who entered the bw-engineers team as a managing director, introduced himself to the partners in course of the annual general meeting held in Stuttgart. With his long time experience in managing European and international projects and networks, he will steer further expansion and the installation of a permanent local representation. In addition to the activities hitherto mainly in the fields “water management” and “regional and urban planning / transportation and traffic”, bw-engineers now strives for further expanding its order backlog also in the other fields such as “surveying and geo informatics”, “geotechnics”, “environment & energy”, “structural engineering” and “architectural design”. Interested companies are invited to join the network.
From the very beginning, Josef Linder has been solely responsible for all management duties of bwe. On behalf of all partners, Dr. Manfred Brenner, one of the initiators of bwe, cordially thanked Josef Linder for the tremendous efforts spent in these years and the success achieved.

Four big urban and infrastructure projects offer chances to get involved
Large-scale projects not only exist in Stuttgart. The City of Mekka has currently four big urban and infrastructure projects comparable to the Stuttgart 21 project Dimension. Two of these projects will be realized by the help of engineering companies of Baden-Württemberg.

The visit of urban city development Planners from Mekka promotes them to become supporters of the railway project Stuttgart 21.
During the protest against Stuttgart 21 enforces in this country, the project impresses urban city development Planners from Mekka. They all promote the large-scale project. Khalid Abdulhafiz Feda, construction chief executive of Mekka belongs to them. “It is a beautiful project” was his statement after his visit in Stuttgart in July. Feda and a delegation of urban city development Planners from Mekka attended on a tour that shows all details about the project. Josef Linder leads the groupe of experts through the permanent exhibition of Stuttgart 21.
The Comprehensive Transportation Masterplan for Makkah was finalized by bwe June 2012. The results of the analysis of the traffic conditions for the various future scenarios 2020 and 2028 within the region of Makkah were presented to representatives of the Holy City of Makkah and the involved stakeholder of the Ministries and Authorities June 19th 2012 in Jeddah.
The two member companies Dr. Brenner Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH and KARAJAN Ingenieure GmbH were responsible for the model development and evaluation of the future scenarios and worked together with the local partner ZFP in Saudi Arabia.
The results of traffic and public transport passenger assignments generally confirm the planning concepts pursued by Makkah Municipality for the future development of the Makkah region and indicate how to engross and further develop these concepts in order to ensure sustainable traffic conditions in the future.
