Bridge over highway A81, Ludwigsburg: Steel compound design tensioned below with span width of 42m made from steel sections welded together.
DescriptionOwing to its curved form, the bridge melts into the slightly hilly landscape in a natural fashion. The thrust blocks abutting from the overgrown banks become visible for the passing car passengers with their shape as technical structures and shorten the bridge truss’s span width to an extent enabling the structure to be assembled and shifted into position in one piece. This was carried out at night with the help of one 500 tonne and one 700 tonne vehicle-mounted crane while the motorway was fully blocked.
